Foreclosure meeting set

The Fulton County Office of Housing will host a town hall meeting Saturday on how to avoid becoming a statistic in the county’s high mortgage foreclosure rate.

This first meeting in a “Stop Before You Borrow --- Every Second Counts” awareness campaign will be held 9:30 a.m.-11 .a.m. at the Body of Christ Church International, 3650 Flat Shoals Road, College Park.

Fulton County is one of the nation’s leaders in mortgage foreclosures, with an estimated 10,000 cases in 2004 alone.  The county also leads the nation in incidences of mortgage fraud cases, with Georgia the leading state.

County staff, lenders and nonprofit housing organization representatives will tell homeowners already in trouble about help that might be available, and advise potential homebuyers how to avoid the lure of selecting an enticing home that costs too much.

Mortgage lenders and cities are partners in the campaign, initiated by District 7 Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards and supported by the Board of Commissioners.
