Johnson named ACC Rookie of Week again

In college football last week, a number of graduates from Fayette County schools performed well.

• Drew Cofty (Starr’s Mill) ran for 90 yards and a touchdown in McKendree College’s win over Trinity International. He is the third running back in the school’s history to rush for over 2,000 yards. He curently has 2,017 yards.

• John Deraney (Fayette County) kicked a 28 yard field goal and an extra point in NC State’s 17-10 loss to Florida State.

• Matt Fuhrman (Starr’s Mill) had two solo tackles, an assist, 1.5 tackles for a loss including a five yard sack and a quarterback hurry in the Merchant Marine Academy’s 16-7 win over the Coast Guard.

• Kedric Golston (Sandy Creek) had one solo tackle and three assists in Georgia’s 24-6 loss to Auburn.

• Reuben Houston (Starr’s Mill) had three solo tackles and an assist in Georgia Tech’s 30-10 win over the University of Connecticut.

• Chris James (Starr’s Mill) kicked six extra points and a career-long 44 yard field goal in Western Kentucky’s 45-3 win over Western Illinois.

• Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had six catches for 131 yards in Georgia Tech’s 30-10 win over the University of Connecticut.

• Riley Swanson (Sandy Creek) had six tackles and a broken up pass in Wake Forest’s 31-24 loss to the University of North Carolina.
