Grace Caldwell got $625 in contributions for her failed campaign to oust incumbent Tyrone Mayor Sheryl Lee.
Caldwell spent more than $11,000 during her campaign, but Lee spent just $653.78, according to their campaign disclosure forms.
Although Caldwells paperwork doesnt say it, she confirmed Monday that the rest of the $10,000-plus she spent on the campaign came out of her own pocket.
All for a job that pays $9,600 a year.
Caldwell didnt list her funds as a contribution in the form of a loan. Rather, she listed the campaign as having a net loss of $10,446.
That was out of my personal funds, Caldwell said Monday.
Caldwell said she didnt regret spending her own money, but she was surprised Lee spent so little money.
I was trying to get my name out there and get some issues before the people and I think we did get some issues before the people, Caldwell said. I think a lot of people understand how the taxes are calculated in Tyrone. It was a very educational process.
Caldwell said the voters decision showed that recreation was a more important issue for the town than erosion or some of the other problems we have in Tyrone.
