Fayette Community Hospital has been renamed Piedmont Fayette Hospital, officials announced Monday.
The change, effective immediately, was made to prominently display the hospitals affiliation with Piedmont Healthcare, which includes Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta and Piedmont Physicians Group, hospital officials said.
Nothing else about the local hospital is changing, said spokeswoman Ryan Duffy, except the fact that its growing.
Our service standards are not changing and our commitment to community is not changing, Duffy said. Our staff and physicians are still fighting tooth and nail to bring these great services to the community.
Piedmont Fayette Hospital offers 100 beds with a 24-hour emergency treatment center, medical and surgical services, diagnostics and rehabilitation services. The hospital has more than 800 employees and a medical staff of almost 350 physicians.
By being a part of Piedmont, we are much stronger, Duffy said. We do offer more services and that brand is already set.
Darrell Cutts, president and CEO of Piedmont Fayette Hospital, said the level of quality care will not change.
We believe our new name provides a more visible link to our parent organization and demonstrates our ties to one of the areas best known health care brands, Cutts said.
A new hospital clinical building is already under construction and an expansion of the emergency department is planned, hospital officials have said.
The hospital also has petitioned the state to offer labor and delivery services. That bid has been challenged by Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, and a hearing on the matter has been set for Tuesday, Jan. 4.
Piedmont Fayette Hospital was named one of the nations top 100 hospitals earlier this year by a private company in an unsolicited honor.
