Is cigarette smoking on its way to becoming an endangered species in Fayettes restaurants?
The town of Tyrone will take comments from the public Thursday night on a proposed no smoking ordinance for the town.
Actually, we prefer to call it a clean air ordinance, said Town Manager Barry Amos.
Amos said the ordinance resembles Peachtree Citys recently enacted ordinance, but with one major exceptions.
The Peachtree City ordinance also governs bars, and we dont have any of those in Tyrone, Amos said.
While the town manager encourages residents to voice their opinion on the issue Thursday, he doesnt expect any action to be taken by the Town Council tomorrow. Instead, he said the council will listen and probably discuss the issue at the towns retreat in January. If residents cant attend Thursdays meeting, they can always register their opinions on the towns Web site at www.tyrone.org.
The other major item on tomorrow nights agenda is a public hearing on a proposed new Waffle House.
They want to go across the street from Publix [on Ga. Highway 74], Amos said.
For years, rumors have swirled that the Georgia-based company was looking for a site in Tyrone. If the restaurant is approved, residents wont have to head to Fairburn, Fayetteville or Peachtree City to get scattered, smothered and covered hashbrowns.
The council meets to discuss these issues at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at Town Hall.
