Next week officially starts the season of holiday eating. For the next six weeks, we'll be inundated with enough holiday goodies to make us start looking for those Atkins Diet books and hitting the treadmills in January.
But until then, we need to enjoy the camaraderie the holidays bring us and the joy of sharing holiday meals.
Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays, and Ive been known to slave three or four days trying to create the perfect meal to share with my family and friends. My secret for the past few years has been brining the turkey on the night before the big holiday. The saltwater soak brings out the real flavor of the turkey.
This time of year is also traditionally the time to give thanks and reflect on the past year. As youre out doing your Christmas shopping this year, check out some of the better restaurants in Fayette County this season.
Without further ado, here are some of the things that Foodie is happy about this year:
Restaurants like City Cafe,Village Cafe, Valentino's and Famous Fish Company. These restaurants have become good friends over the past few years and show that Fayette Countians are willing to support genuine, independent restaurants in the vast expanse of chain restaurant dining. Im also excited that Georgia Shrimp Company has opened in Peachtree City, and offers residents another choice in seafood.
Im also thankful for such restaurants as Golden Chopstix, which was one of the first ethnic restaurants in the area and consistently serves some of the best Chinese food in the county.
Fresh bread and strong coffee on a dreary winter morning. For years, residents moaned over the lack of good, crusty European bread in the area. Now, Atlanta Bread Company, Starbucks and City Cafe offer a taste of the continent to the Southside. My choice for best supermarket bread is Publix.
The diversity of food shopping that has sprung up in the county. For years, our only options have been the large scale supermarkets. But now, we can go to World Market at the Pavilion or Kegleys Fine Foods in Peachtree City and find some of the specialty foods that was only available in some of Atlantas finer markets.
