Fayette County Board of Health tapped a long-time advocate for mental health services to serve on the McIntosh Trail Community Service Board.
Ken Schall, 54, of Fayetteville, was appointed to serve a three-year term during the Board of Healths Tuesday morning meeting.
Schall, a pipe-welder, previously served as president of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Fayette County (NAMI) for five years. Schall started the chapter.
The McIntosh Trail Community Service Board has three Fayette County representatives who participate in the governance of our public behavioral health service for a seven-county area, said Sandra Manley, an administrative assistant for the Board. Mr. Schall has been appointed by the Board of Commissioners to serve in the capacity.
Board members oversee the budget and set policies. Members also must attend monthly meeting at the McIntosh Trail Community Service Board Administrative Office in Griffin.
Im able to serve. I have a desire to serve and I feel called to serve on the community service board level, Schall said of his appointment.
McIntosh Trail Community Service Board is a public independent authority serving people with mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive diseases, officials said.
The Board serves Fayette, Butts, Henry, Lamar, Pike, Spalding and Upson counties. Fayette Community Options and Fayette Counseling Center are two facilities the agency manages.
