Dear Father Paul

Dear Herb:  Some of them really turn me off too, especially the ones who are always begging for money.  You know...they guys who put people on a guilt trip unless they give, give, give!  Their victims are often the elderly and the lonely.  They fleece the flock and use (at least some) of the money to drive fancy cars and live in big mansions. They are as phoney as a three-dollar bill, and you'd think 99 percent of people would see through their charade, but they seem to hang in there year after year.  God forgive them!

Remember, however, that Billy Graham is a T.V. preacher.  His honesty, integrity and the good works done by his ministry are legend.  There are lots and lots of others on T.V. whose entire ministry is based only on helping people and building God's kingdom.  These honest, dedicated preachers deserve our prayers and support.

The honest T.V. ministries are all members of a national association of ministries which requires financial disclosure and accountability. If you contact them and ask for their latest financial audit they will cheerfully send it by return mail. If a ministry refuses, their refusal speaks volumes. Avoid watching and supporting the ones as well who are really just entertainers and showmen.  The Holy Spirit will reveal to you who they are.

Dear Father Paul:  My parents used to fight all of the time and were going to get a divorce. I prayed and asked God to keep them together.  He did.  We started going to church.  I love it.  We are now one happy family.  Annie (age 11), Fayetteville.

Dear Father Paul:  My wife was unfaithful to me, and although I have forgiven her, (it happened in 2002) I don't trust her.  I want to trust her, but I just can't.  Am I wrong not to trust her?  Joel,  Peachtree City.

Dear Joel: No you are not wrong.  She lost your trust as a natural consequence of her (wrong) actions.  Forgiveness can and should be given, according  to the Bible. You have done this and I congratulate you.  Lots of men (and women) in your circumstances don't have the grace to do what you have done.

Trust, on the other hand, is a different matter as you are finding out.  Once it is lost it is not easily regained.  In order for it to be re-established it must be earned and that process isn't a quick fix...it can take some time...even, as in your case, a couple of years.  Assuming that your wife has given you no reason not to trust her since 2002, the trust is probably a lot closer to being regained than you realize.  Look for ways you can trust her, not for ways you can not trust her.  Again, it can take time, but it will come.  I am believing and praying that your marriage (including your trust) will be fully and completely restored.  Good luck.
