Davis brothers make impact at Georgia State

In a time where many college athletic team rosters are comprised of out-of-state students and international players, 85 percent of the Georgia State men’s soccer team 26-player roster is composed of players from the state of Georgia.

Of those 22 Georgia-bred players, nearly 70 percent are from the metro Atlanta area. These 22 athletes have tallied 78 of the Panthers’ 87 points this season and have made great defensive contributions to help Georgia State to an 8-6-1 overall record and a 6-3 record in Atlantic Sun conference play, leading the team to its second consecutive Atlantic Sun Men’s Soccer Championship berth.

The roster is made up of the 22 Georgians, one Floridian and three recruits from South America, meaning that only one of the other 49 states are represented on the Panthers’ roster. Fayette County is represented by brothers Jordan and Justin Davis of Peachtree City.

Senior midfielder Jordan Davis was a four-year letterwinner at Starrs Mill High School in Peachtree City and helped lead the team to the 2000 AAA state championship. Davis immediately made an impact on the Georgia State team after transferring from Charleston Southern in 2002. He was named to the ODU Stihl Classic All-Tournament Team and led the Panthers with 5 assists in his first season at State.He has played in every match since 2003 and has started in 48 games in his three years at State.

His younger brother, Justin, now a freshman on the State soccer team, also had a great career at Starr’s Mill, helping the team to a top 20 national ranking and earning team MVP Defensive and Player of the Year honors. He played in eight matches in his first season of NCAA Division I soccer.
