Lindsey Wilckens and Amy Gress of Starrs Mill and Kristin Cera of McIntosh were recently selected as All-State cheerleaders at the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association tryout at Columbus State University. Nominated by their coaches, Mandy and Kevin Ridgeway of Starrs Mil and Laura Ergle of McIntosh, the girls competed against 120 other senior cheerleaders from high school programs across Georgia in the first portion of the competition based on scholarship application. The 40 cheerleaders selected as finalists competed at Columbus State University.
The finalists were judged in an interview with questions drawn from their scholarship application and then presented a two-minute routine which showcased their cheerleading skills. The 16 All-State cheerleading sqaud was announced on site after the completion of the competitionand the squad will be presented at the conclusion of the GHSA Cheerleading State Championship in Columbus, Feb. 5. At that time the Georgia Cheerleader of the Year scholarship winner, the top scorer in the All-State competition, will be announced and all scholarships will be presented.
The Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association annually awards scholarships of over $1,500 to the first and second place finishers at the Alll-State cheerleading squad tryouts.
