Grown-up fun at Paul D. West MiddleAdults in south Fulton are invited to a unique evening celebrating the community and its schools One Community Under a Groove November 13 from 6-10 p.m., at Paul D. West Middle School. This first-ever event described as an old school community jam aims to give parents and other grown-ups a chance to have some fun while supporting south Fulton schools and education. Admission is $5 per person, or $8 for couples, and all proceeds benefit student achievement programs at Paul D. West Middle School, the sponsor of the event. Attendees are encouraged to dress old school 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s. Were taking a different approach to building community support and parent involvement. We normally encourage kids and parents to come to school activities together, said Dan Sims, Paul D. West principal and coordinator of the event. But on this night, parents need a night off from the kids. We want them to relax and enjoy themselves so they can really focus on our message that our community schools are great and that we all must work together for our students. In addition to good music, food, and possibly karaoke, information on all south Fulton schools will be shown through looping presentations on the gym walls. Teachers and school administrators will talk with guests about supporting school initiatives and the local PTAs. Tips for helping children prepare for the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test, which is given in the spring, also will be shared. Because this is an adults-only event, parents should find childcare for children over 10. Childcare is provided at the school for children 10 and under only. Paul D. West Middle School is located at 2376 Headland Drive in East Point. For more information, contact school Principal Dan Sims or Parent Liaison Sonya Grider at 404-669-813 |
