A gas station is coming to the Kedron Village shopping center, replacing the shuttered KFC-Pizza Hut Express fast-food restaurant.
But before the Peachtree City Planning Commission voted on the plan Monday night, one commissioner lashed out at the use of a right-in-only driveway off Peachtree Parkway.
I extremely object to this curb cut into the parkway, said commissioner Ray Green. I think its a mistake. Itll cause traffic problems. Its not the right thing to do.
Green cast the sole vote against the plan, which was approved 4-1.
The gas station will use the former site of a KFC/Pizza Hut Express, at the intersection of Peachtree Parkway and Georgian Park. Currently, the site lacks a curb cut off Peachtree Parkway. The existing building will be used for the convenience store and a free-standing car wash building will be added to the site.
Originally, the developer wanted the curb cut to allow right-in and right-out access, but the latter was scrapped from the plan after commissioners gave input on the plan at a previous workshop, said Don Cobb, architect for the project.
The right-in access will allow motorists heading south on the parkway to turn into the property using a deceleration lane.
Commissioner Marty Mullin said he was glad to see the right-out access removed from the plan, because vehicles would need to cross two lanes to head south on Peachtree Parkway. He added that hed like to eliminate curb cuts on the parkway, but there are no ordinances on the books to enforce that goal.
