After months of red mud running through the streets, Senoias residents should start noticing their city looking much cleaner.
All of our sewer lines are now in the ground, and we can start cleaning up, said Mayor Bob Hannah.
Hannah is hopeful that all the pump stations for the citys multi-million dollar municipal sewer system will be online at the end of the month, so that residents in the historic area can start hooking up to the system.
Even though were going to start repaving the streets, some of the cosmetic changes in the city wont be visible until spring, Hannah said.
The mayor also said the citys three contractors will not be fined for finishing the job late. The citys contract specified an Oct. 1 completion date, but Hannah said the citys engineer, Ben Turnipseed, recommended not imposing the $600 a day fine.
They faced a lot of issues, including hitting a lot of rock and bad weather, so we gave them a 60 day extension. But theyre finished now, he added.
Residents will soon be getting notices informing them that they have 60 days to hook up to the system for free. After the 60 days, residents will have to pay a tap fee. Residents will also have to pay all connection costs from the street to the home.
