Basketball and soccer tournaments in area this weekend

Fayette County will be the site of two tournaments this weekend, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at Whitewater High School and the Tide American Cup soccer tournament at McCurry Park.

The 3-on-3 tournament is open to boys and girls in the fifth- and sixth-grade league and the seventh- and the eighth-grade league. The tournament takes place Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and the walk-up fee is $90 for a team of three or four players. The Tide American Cup is part of a nationwide event that is held in more than 40 locations around the country. In its third year, the local tournament will host more than 160 youth recreational soccer teams, boys and girls ages 9-18, as they compete for the title. The Lovejoy Soccer Compex and Wade Walker Park in Stone Mountain will also be hosting games. The tournament, which runs Nov. 13-14, will also feature numerous soccer activities for the family and the Tide Soccer Challenger Obstacle Course.
