Houston wins ACC Player of the Week honorsIn college football last week, a number of graduates from Fayette County schools performed well. Drew Cofty (Starrs Mill) named Mid-States Football, Association Payer of the Week for the Week of Oct. 30, rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown in McKendree Colleges 38-31 double overtime win over St. Ambrose. John Deraney (Fayette County) Kicked two extra points in NC States 24-14 loss to Georgia Tech. Jason Earwood (Starrs Mill) had two solo tackles in Georgia Southerns 29-22 loss to Furman University. Matt Fuhrman (Starrs Mill) had seven tackles, one assist, one forced fumble, one tackle for a loss and one sack. Kedric Golston (Sandy Creek) had one solo tackle and three quarterback hurries in Georgias 62-17 win over Kentucky. Reuben Houston (Starrs Mill) had two interceptions for 12 yards and a solo tackle and an assist in Georgia Techs 24-14 win over NC State. Houston was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week. Phillip Hyde (Sandy Creek) had -1yards rushing for Samford in their 51-18 loss to Jacksonville State. Chris James (Starrs Mill) kicked four extra points in Western Kentuckys 28-24 win over Southwest Missouri State. Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had three catches for 47 yards Georgia Techs 24-14 win over N.C. State. All stats are pulled from the universitys web sites on Monday morning.
