Public invited to forum on police accreditation

A public forum on the possible re-accreditation of the Fayetteville Police Department is scheduled at Fayetteville City Hall Monday at 7 p.m.

The department is vying for national re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.

A CALEA team of assessors, who are been evaluating the department, will hear all comments at the meeting. Anyone who can’t attend but wants to comment on the record can do so Monday, Nov. 8, between 1-5 p.m. by calling 770-460-4248.

All comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with standards outlined by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc.

The assessment team will judge the department on a variety of policing aspects from policies, procedures and administrative operations to support services.

Fayetteville Police Chief Johnny Roberts said the process helps the department provide a high-quality service and use community policing initiatives.
