The cross country season ends tomorrow with a long day of races at Carrollton High School.
Starrs Mills boys and girls will compete in the AAAAA races, which will be run at 8:30 and 9 a.m. respectively. Starrs Mills Bradley Morris is a contender for the top spot and the boys as a team could also contend for a top spot if they can run a tight race. In the region meet, Morris was followed by Austin Enriquez, Craig Hyatt and Daniel Shankle within 43 seconds of his finish.
The Lady Panthers have also fared well this season and had no problems running in close groupings in the region championship. Their top five runners; Kristin Horton, Kristin Olson, Jesse Cort, Ginny Balckom and Kirsten Pretzer, finished fourth through eighth.
Fayette Countys boys and girls have also qualified for the AAAAA state meet.
McIntoshs girls may not have the numbers for a state championship this year, but they have one runner, Emily Borsare, who may be able to take a state title. Borsare won the region by almost an entire minute. She was followed by Olivia Tucker, Melissa Anderson, Rebecca Stokes and Erica Hughey, all of whom finished in the top 12. They were all a minute behind second place, but a good race could secure a high finish for the Lady Chiefs.
The top runner for the boys, Michael Mateos, placed fifth in the region, 26 seconds behind the region champ from Woodward. He will be racing in Saturdays race though the McIntosh boys did not qualify as a team.
The Class AAAA boys will race at 11:30 a.m. followed by the girls race at noon.
Landmark and Our Lady of Mercys teams will compete in the final races of the day. Will Bonn is a favorite for a state title as he finished a minute ahead of teammate Chad Thames in the region championship. Coached by Bill Thorn, the Landmark teams are always strong competitors. Our Lady of Mercy has had good running from their boys and girls teams this season and could nab a top five finish with their best race of the year.
The Class A boys will race at 2:30 p.m. with the girls race starting at 3 p.m.
