Starrs Mill still alive in volleyball playoffsFour teams entered the state volleyball tournaments for their respective classifications and only one is still alive. Starrs Mill made the AAAAA final four, while Fayette County, McIntosh and Landmark Christian fell. Class AAAAAStarrs Mill got wins over Dacula, 25-17, 25-16; Northview, 25-13 and 25-21 and Northview once again 25-21, 25-20, 25-16. Leading the teams stat parade were Kursten Carr (26 kills, 2.5 blocks ), Shelley MacBean (10 aces, 9 kills, 21 digs, 3 blocks), Niki Patriarca (72 assists, 19 digs), Kelley Elder (10 kills, 37 digs), and Aubrey Ireland (13 kills, 16 digs). Alex Hayes, Kirstin Massmann, and Lauren Gray also all made solid contributions to the teams big victory. AAAAMcIntosh opened the state sectionals with a loss to Marist, 25-17, 25-20. The team then won games over Greenbrier, 25-11, 25-11 and Clarke Central, 25-21, 25-17 before taking on Marist again and losing 25-22, 25-14 and 25-20. The Lady Chiefs finished with a record of 30-15. Class ALandmark Christian opened with a loss to Greater Atlanta Christian and then followed it with wins over Jackson, Greater Atlanta Christian before losing to Holy Innocents, 25-11, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17. |
