McHugh, Tennant honored for work in rec programsSherry McHugh, recreation administrator for the Peachtree City Parks & Recreation Department, was named "Distinguished Professional" at the 4th District Georgia Recreation and Park Association banquet in Carrollton last week. McHugh was honored for her involvement and over 20 years of service to the GRPA. She is currently serving as the district commissioner for the 4th district. The award cited her past work as a member of the Board of Trustees where she has served as secretary and second vice president. McHugh has held the post of district commissioner for the 5th District as well during her 11-year stint as director of the Smyrna Parks and Recreation. In addition, she has served and chaired numerous committees. "We are very proud to see this honor given to Sherry, said Carolyn Stanton, manager of leisure programs. She has always encouraged our staff to be active in GRPA. Three staff members have obtained their Certified Park and Recreation Professional status and others will undergo the examination in the near future." "She has gained the admiration and respect of recreation professionals throughout the state. She knows almost every recreation person around, and they all know she is willing to serve in whatever capacity is needed. I couldn't think of a more deserving person to receive this award," Stanton continued. "Our staff was really proud that we could nominate Sherry and keep it a complete surprise," said Stanton. Also at the banquet, Robin Tennant was named "Volunteer of the Year" for her work in establishing the Peachtree City Youth Council. The award nomination cited the many activities and hours of leadership that Tennant has provided to guide the Youth Council and recognized the important role that volunteers make to our community. "Mrs. Tennant is the biggest reason why the Peachtree City Youth Council continues to grow", said Art Sivertsen, voordinator of youth and teens. "She has spent many hours recruiting, and promoting events. She has also been the key to partnerships with local businesses and sponsors for all Youth Council Events. She was truly deserving of this award for her dedication to the teens of Peachtree City." |
