County OKs home fronting on Hwy. 85By JOHN THOMPSON Myrtle Wilson doesnt care that the property she owns south of Fayetteville on busy Ga. Highway 85 adjoins several commercial properties. All she wanted was the Fayette County Commission to give her permission to let a family member build a home on the two-acre site. Last Thursday, she got the go-ahead as the County Commission voted 4-1 to rezone the property from A-R to R-40. Commissioner Linda Wells cast the dissenting vote. Im not upset with what youre doing. I just dont like going against our land use plan, Wells said. The property is near Corvette Country and the new Georgia Farm store, south of the Towne Center shopping center. The Planning Commission recommended approval and said although the property lies in an area designated for commercial, it could provide a definitive line for commercial growth to end on the eastern side of the highway. During the public hearing portion of the meeting, the County Commission made sure that Wilson knew the area was designated as future commercial property. Wilson nodded her head, and the commissioners approved it. Ill always support something that lessens the land use, said Chairman Greg Dunn.
