Fludd endorsed by Georgia Hospital AssociationState Rep. Virgil Fludd was named this week as the Georgia Hospital Associations Legislative Leadership Award recipient in recognition of his leadership in promoting sound health care policy that benefits patients, hospitals, and communities. The award and endorsement stated that Representative Fludds efforts help create in-roads toward public understanding and awareness of hospital needs and are vital to the stability of our health care system. Georgia hospitals continue to be under enormous financial pressure, stated Georgia Hospital Association Vice President Holly Bates Snow. Challenges such as annual budget-cutting measures at the state and federal levels plague our system. Add to this the unbalanced judicial system in Georgia that is forcing physicians to limit or close their practices and eliminating many valuable health care services at Georgia hospitals because of the medical liability crisis. Snow went on to state that Fludds leadership to improve health care policy is deeply appreciated and understood by the Georgia hospital community. Snow also acknowledged Fludds support on a variety of issues such as tort reform, health care payment policies, PeachCare funding and the uninsured. She added that Fludds willingness to support meaningful health care reforms to help patients and citizens in [his] community and communities across the state demonstrates [his] commitment to ensuring access to quality health care. Fludd was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in 2002. He serves as chairman of the Fayette County delegation and secretary of the Banks and Banking Committee. Prior to his election in 2002, Fludd spent more than 20 years in business management and consulting. He is currently President/CEO of Carvir Group, Inc., a consulting firm that provides management search and executive recruiting services. Previously, he was vice president and sales manager with Bank of America. In addition to his service to citizens of District 66 in the Georgia General Assembly, Fludd leads the North Fayette Community Association. He is a former board chairman of the Dr. Ronald E. McNair Foundation, which is dedicated to developing and implementing education programs that motivate and encourage students to pursue careers in science, mathematics and technology. In addition, he has been a member of the National Association of Urban Bankers, the Atlanta Human Resources Association, and the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council. Fludds community service has earned him numerous awards, including the Pioneer Award from the Atlanta Urban Bankers and recognition in Who's Who of Successful African Americans and Whos Who of Successful Entrepreneurs. In addition, Fludd has volunteered his time to coach basketball, football, and track. He has served on several committees in support of the Fayette County school system including SPLOST, Middle School Curriculum Committee, Concerned Citizens for Excellence in Education, and the Fayette Community School. In 1980, Virgil earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. He has been married for 18 years to Carolyn Fludd. They are the proud parents of two teenage children.
