Big week for local collegiate football playersIn college football last week, a number of graduates from Fayette County schools performed well. John Deraney (Fayette County) kicked four extra points, a 39-yard field goal and five punts for 173 yards in N.C. States 45-31 loss to Miami. Matt Fuhrman (Starrs Mill ) had five solo tackles, three asists and two tackles for a loss in the U.S. Merchant Marine Academys 37-20 loss to Rensselaer. Kedric Golston (Sandy Creek) had one solo tackle, one assist and one sack in Georgias 20-14 win over Arkansas. Phillip Hyde (Sandy Creek) had 43 yards rushing, 22 yards receiving and a touchdown in Samfords 42-36 overtime win over Tennessee State. Chris James (Starrs Mill) had four extra points and a 31-yard field goal in Western Kentuckys 31-9 win over Indiana State. J.R. Lemon (Sandy Creek) had 30 yards rushing in Stanfords 16-13 loss to Oregon. Riley Swanson (Sandy Creek) had five solo tackles in Wake Forests 20-17 loss to Florida State.
