Regular season ends this weekBy MICHAEL BOYLAN
It all comes down to this. Well, not really. A few teams will be moving on to their classifications state tournament next week, while the others will finish their 2004 football season this week. Region 4-AAAA Sandy Creek (9-0) is moving on to the playoffs and they are guaranteed a home game, regardless of the results of Friday nights match with Creekside. There is a lot at stake though. A win by the Patriots will give the team their second straight region championship and a match against the fourth seed from region 2-AAAA. The Patriots did their part to go in to the final game with a perfect record by defeating Alexander 24-6. Josh Haney and Jake Turing both played at quarterback as the Patriots racked up close to 400 yards of offense. Jamal Rome, Reggie Ellington and Angelo Garibaldi all scored touchdowns, while Michael Jones added a field goal. McIntosh (4-5) will be shooting for a .500 season Friday when they host Chapel Hill (0-9) Friday. The Chiefs 22-21 win over Haralson County last Friday snapped a three game losing streak. McIntosh got two touchdowns and an interception from Tyson Sandlin, a touchdown from Jamael Owens and a field goal from Nader Jarun. The Chiefs also had a number of defnesive players play extremely well, including Anthony Caldwell, Kevin Cline and Travis Jones, who recovered a fumble. Whitewater (6-3) will host North Oconee tomorrow at 6 p.m. The Wildcats defeated Mill Creek 28-7 last Saturday with touchdowns from Kurdice Neal (2), quarterback Jay Bright on a 75 yard run and Justin Evans. Jonathan Jaurigue added another interception in the game for Whitewater, as the defense played very well after giving up mill Creeks initial touchdown in the opening quarter. Region 4-AAAAA Starrs Mill (8-1) will be shooting for another region champioship when they play at Fayette County High School on Friday in the annual Battle for the Rock. Lovejoy, East Coweta and Starrs Mill are all at 4-1 in the region and a win over the Tigers (1-8) could give the Panthers the region title and the top seed from the region in the state playoffs. Starrs Mill got a huge night last Friday from Kyle McCreary, who rushed for over 170 yards and four touchdowns. The Panthers defeated Newnan 37-21. Quarterback Robby Davis connected with Lewis Parks for a touchdown and Matt Johnson added a safety to the scoring. Starrs Mills defense was impressive once again, slowing talented quarterback Tyler Horne with six sacks. Fayette County had a bye week last week and will be ready to play spolier to the Panthers hopes, though they will be missing some of their players. Both quarterback Jonathan Watson and Kiwanee Mitchell will be out with knee injuries, while Jeremy Fowler and Joanthan Loving are out with shoulder injuries, Kyle Freeman is out with a broken foot and Kip Rossi is out with mono. It will be a chance for our seniors to go out with a win and a chance for a lot of young kids to get the experience of playing Starrs Mill on the varsity level, said Coach Tommy Webb. This is a chance for our young players to step up and make things happen. They are prepared and ready to meet this challenge. Region 5-A Landmark Christian (5-4, 3-0 region) will host Eagles Landing Christian (8-1, 3-0 region) for the region championship Friday night. Landmark Christian took on Whitefield Academy last week and won 25-3. It was their fourth consecutive win. Our Lady of Mercy (0-9) had a bye week last week and will host Mt. Zion, Carroll (0-9) for the fourth and final slot from region 5-A to the state playoffs.
