Cookbooks going out at Cattle Barons BallThe American Cancer Society of Fayette Countys 2004-2005 Cattle Barons Cookbooks have arrived from the printers, are bandana wrapped and ready for distribution to the guests of the 2004 Cattle Barons Ball. The ball is Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Fayette County Fair Grounds Exhibition Hall. Just like last year, guests will receive a cookbook to thank them for participating in this years event. The Cattle Barons Cookbook has been the year-long project of co-chairs Jean Armbruster and Susan Stitt. Both Peachtree City women are volunteers with the American Cancer Society and friends who met through their membership in the local chapter of the New Neighbors League Club. Both Armbruster and Stitt have family members who are cancer survivors. They dedicate their participation each year to their family members and all of the people whose lives are touched by cancer. Recipes in the cookbook were solicited from cancer survivors at the Relay for Life event at the fairgrounds in May. Many recipes inside the book have dedications to cancer patients and family members who have not survived cancer. A few celebrity recipes are also included. Former United States President Jimmy Carters wife, Rosalynn, submitted an old family recipe called Plains Special Cheese Ring. Governor Sonny Perdues wife, Mary Perdue, a recent breast cancer patient herself, submitted a recipe for Crab Chowder. Peachtree Citys mayor, Steve Brown, submitted Tomato-Pesto Tart. Friends of Armbruster and Stitt met recently at the Stitts home to wrap each cookbook in a fabric bandana, and attach a thank you note to the Cattle Baron patrons. Additional books are available for sale to the public for the cost of $10. These books would make a very special gift to anyone, especially someone who has been touched by cancer. The Cattle Barons Ball is a major source of funding for the American Cancer Society. Last years inaugural event raised $95,000 for local programs of the American Cancer Society, which are made available to our community free of charge as wells as funding research and development. Tickets to the Second annual Cattle Barons Ball are still available. To order tickets or a cookbook contact Sheri Waynick, community income manager, American Cancer Society, Fayette County at 770-460-8920.
