Driver charged in pedestrian deathBy JOHN MUNFORD
A Fayetteville woman has been charged with one misdemeanor count of vehicular homicide for hitting a Jonesboro woman while exiting a gas station parking lot in Fayetteville several months ago, police said. Julianne G. Varner, 41, of 11798 Fairway Overlook, was driving a 2002 Ford Windstar minivan out of the parking lot of the Crews BP gas station when she hit Joyce Spratlin, 65, of 9951 Corinth Road the afternoon of May 27, according to a report filed by the Fayetteville Police Department. Varner was turing out of the gas stations parking lot onto Ga. Highway 85 when the van struck Spratlin, who was on foot, police said. Spratlin died June 4 of injuries she suffered in the collision, police said. Misdemeanor vehicular homicide charges are, by law, filed when police believe the act was not intentional.
