Uniglobe
raises over $500 for breast cancer research
The employees of Uniglobe Accent Travel raised over $500 for
the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation Oct. 14.
The travel agency sponsored a dessert tasting, in conjunction
with the nationally organized "Denim Day," to increase
breast cancer awareness and raise funds for research.
Lee Jeans sponsors the annual "Denim Day" and employees
pay $5 per person for the privilege of wearing blue jeans to
work on that day. The Uniglobe employees took the idea one step
further and advertised their event as a "Denim Day Dessert
Tasting."
The neighboring offices of attorneys Webb, Lindsey, and Wade
and the engineering firm DES helped support the "Denim Day" event.
The Uniglobe agency distributed flyers and invited clients to
participate as well. Agency owner Marcia Cole gave a pep talk
at the Peachtree City Rotary Club luncheon and several members
of that organization stopped by for dessert after their meeting.
Uniglobe's "Denim Day" coordinator, Paula Preti, said, "I
was overwhelmed with the generosity and encouragement we received.
Everyone had a great time sampling the delicious assortment of
desserts and the aroma of chocolate in the air was intoxicating.
I can't thank our friends and associates enough for helping us
raise such an impressive donation for breast cancer research."
The agency became involved with "Denim Day" several
years ago as a positive and lasting way to remember fellow employee
Linda Burnett. Burnett suffered with breast cancer and fought
to survive for three years before passing away in 2000. The Uniglobe
employees supported her fight prior to her untimely death and
continue to support research so that others will have a better
chance of survival.
