Buses to roll Nov. 29By JOHN THOMPSON
Residents who want to leave the driving to someone else will have a new choice Nov. 29. Coweta County Administrator Theron Gay confirmed the Georgia Regional Transportation Authoritys new express buses wills tart rolling in late November. The 57-seat buses will leave from the parking lot of the new theater on the Newnan Bypass at 5:45 in the morning Monday through Friday. When the Coweta County Commission approved the agreement with the transportation super-agency last year, the route was from Newnan to the MARTA station at Hartsfield-Jackson international Airport. But now the route will bypass the airport and head downtown to the Five Points MARTA station. I think theres some construction going on near the airport station, so GRTA has told us they cant do that route right now, Gay said. If residents want to go to the airport, gay said they will have to depart at Five Points and catch a train south, he added. In addition to stopping at Five Points, gay said the route will also go to West Peachtree and Ralph McGill Boulevard for Midtown commuters. During the evening commute, Gay said buses will leave West Peachtree starting at 3:50 p.m. and continuing until shortly after 6 p.m. Originally, the route was going to stop at a location on Ga. Highway 154, but Gay said GRTA was not able to secure a park and ride location on the busy state highway. Residents who want more information on the bus system should plan to attend the Coweta County Commission meeting Nov. 11. Gay said GRTA representatives will be on hand to answer questions. He added a bus will also be available for people to check out.
