Locals havig impact in college gamesIn college football this week, our formerly local players once again had impacts on their teams games. John Deraney (Fayette County) - was 2-for-5 on field goal attempts, connecting on attempts of 32 and 49 yards. Deraney also kicked an extra point and had six punts for 250 yards in NC States 13-3 win over Maryland. Jason Earwood (Starrs Mill) had one assited tackle and a fumble recovery for Georgia Southern in their 54-7 win over Appalachian State. Matt Fuhrman (Starrs Mill) had seven tackles, a forced fumble and a sack for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in their 35-6 loss to Hobart. Kedric Golston (Sandy Creek) had two quarterback hurries in Georgias 33-3 win over Vanderbilt. Jermaine Harris (Sandy Creek) had two tackles for South Carolina in their 12-7 win over Kentucky. Reuben Houston (Starrs Mill) had two tackles and an assist for Georgia Tech in their 24-7 win over Duke. Phillip Hyde (Sandy Creek) had 100 yards rushing and a touchdown for Samford University in their 34-20 win over UT-Martin. He also had a fumble. Chris James (Starrs Mill) kicked a 29 yard field goal in Western Kentuckys 38-10 loss to Southern Illinois. Calvin Johnson (Sandy Creek) had six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns in Georgia Techs 24-7 win over Duke. Johnson was also named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. He is Techs leading receiver with 23 catches for 395 yards and five touchdowns. he leads all ACC freshmen in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns and also ranks among the nations top freshmen receivers. Will Judson (Sandy Creek) had five kick returns for 70 yards in Florida A&Ms 62-0 loss to Virginia Tech. He also had a fumble. J. R. Lemon (Sandy Creek) rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown in Stanfords 23-17 win over Washington State.
