Area tournaments have begun, Starrs Mill meets Fayette for finalThe area 2-AAAAA tournament started at Starrs Mill last week and it will conclude Thursday with a championship game between Starrs Mill and Fayette County at Starrs Mill at 7 p.m. The Lady Panthers, number one in the polls for a number of weeks, had wins over Newnan, 25-8 and 25-7 and Fayette County, 25-10 and 25-7 in the tournament so far. Kursten Carr led the team with 11 kills and was followed by Shelley MacBean with 10. Kelle Elder had 13 digs and six service aces, while Niki Patriarca had 30 assists and four service aces. MacBean also chipped in three blocks in the tournament. Fayette County had wins over Newnan, 25-18 and 26-24, East Coweta, 25-19, 13-25 and 25-12, Lovejoy, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-15 and the loss to Starrs Mill, 10-25, 7-25. Jordan Gore led the team with 29 kills, while Brittany Wilson added 13 and JoAnna Beck had 10. Katie Bankieris had 47 assists and Brittany Jackson had 17 assists. Melanie Stephens had 19 blocks and Mandi Howard had 11 service aces. The region 4-AAAA tournament started last night at McIntosh High School and will conclude at Woodward Academy tomorrow and Saturday. Visit www.thecitizennews.com for schedule updates and results.
