Silt solution on the horizonBy MICHAEL BOYLAN
Though no one has admitted fault for the sediment in Lake Pendleton near Tyrone, it appears that the situation will soon be remedied. Developers, members of the Pendleton Homeowners Association and officials of the town of Tyrone met last week to discuss the situation and to try to iron out a solution to the problem. Town Manager Barry Amos said the meeting was very positive and felt like things were moving in a good direction. Lake Pendleton was dredged several years ago because of an excessive amount of silt in the water. Officials have argued that since no development was occurring in the area at that time that could have contributed to the problem, a naturally occurring erosion likely contributed to the problem. The developers involved in the discussion, TCG Holdings and Brent Scarbrough and Co., contended that their developments didnt contribute to the current silt problem in the lake and that naturally occurring erosion was likely still contributing. But both parties stated that they would do their part to help out and be good corporate citizens and neighbors. Each party has contributed $1,000 to go toward an additional investigation into the amount of silt in the lake and how much to have it removed. According to Amos, Jim Suess, the president of the Pendleton Homeowners Association, is speaking with several companies and that an investigation should take place soon. Were going to keep the ball rolling and go back to the table with the results very soon, said Suess, who was hoping they would be meeting with the developers again within a month. The Tyrone Town Council meets the first and third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m.
