For years, land-locked Fayette County suffered from a lack of
seafood dining options. Sure, there was always the deep-fried
variety available in the local fast food outlets, but lovers
of seafood constantly bemoaned the lack of availability of fresh
seafood.
But then Famous Fish Company opened in Peachtree City, and finally
there was an option for those who preferred crustaceans and fresh
fish to steaks and pulled barbecue.
Now, trying to build on their success, the owners of Famous
Fish have decided to branch out with another restaurant, the
Georgia Shrimp Company. The restaurant is at 290 Ga. Highway
74, next to Hangar 74 in Peachtree City.
The restaurants slogan is serious seafood with no
frills attached, and it lives up to that motto.
The fried shrimp, at $8.95, is some of the best I have had in
the city. I grew up in northwest Florida, and Im pretty
picky about seafood, but this was really excellent.
I also enjoyed the unique dipping sauces supplied with shrimp-a
hot dip and an Oriental-style sauce.
The menu also features such one-of-a-kind items as the $7.95
trout and almond potato skins. Believe me, these are no the typical
potato skins trotted out at every chain restaurant in town. The
potato skins are filled with a creamy blend of fresh trout and
almonds and topped with cheese. If youre looking for an
appetizer thats both different and tasty, this is what
you need to order.
One of my favorite items on the menu is the London-style fish
and chips at $9.95. I love how this dish is served in a cone
and comes with malt vinegar, which I think is one of the most-overlooked
condiments in the food world.
Another highly recommended dish is the po boy sandwich filled
with shrimp and oysters for $7.95.
I have a soft spot in my heart for po boys after several trips
to New Orleans. I love the Shrimp Companys take on this
and really love the tartar sauce that comes with the sandwich.
Everything I had here was wonderful, and if youre looking
for good seafood, this beats a five hour drive to the beach.
