Bad Links? | Two E. Coweta students killed in crashNeither wore seat belt, police said By JOHN MUNFORD An auto crash near East Coweta High School Wednesday morning has claimed the lives of two students there, police said. Erika Waters, 17, and Amber Oglesby, 16, died after the collision when the Plymouth Horizon Waters was driving crossed the center line of Ga. Highway 154 and struck an oncoming vehicle, said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Larry Schnall. The preliminary investigation into the accident indicated that neither Waters nor Oglesby were wearing seat belts, Schnall confirmed. The wreck occurred about a half-mile from the school, injuring a third student who drove the truck Waters crashed into, police said. Brandon Thacker, 16, was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said. It is not clear why Waters vehicle left the westbound lane as it crossed the center line, Schnall said. The vehicles hit head-on and both overturned after the initial collision, police said. No charges will be pending in the case due to Waters death, Schnall said. It did not appear that either drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, he confirmed. |
