A former Fayetteville resident was convicted Thursday of violating a temporary protective order while a family violence criminal charge was pending against him. Ralph Glen Teague, 67, of 9003 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, was sentenced to 30 days in jail after the jury returned the guilty verdict on the misdemeanor charge in Fayette County Superior Court. Teague was accused of contacting his wife by phone July 4, 2003, despite a judges order that forbid him from contacting her by any means. The temporary protective order was issued after Teague was arrested by sheriffs deputies for family violence battery and a second charge of battery. The protective order was filed after an incident between the couple was reported Feb. 7, 2003 in which Teague struck his wife in the face with a large coffee can, causing substantial blackening of both eyes, substantial swelling and cuts to the bridge of her nose, according to the arrest warrant filed by the sheriffs office. The charges stemming from the February incident have not been prosecuted because the Teagues agreed to enter the pre-trial intervention program, according to court documents. State Court Judge Fletcher Sams ordered Mr. Teague to complete a 24-week course about preventing family violence and Mrs. Teague was ordered to attend classes twice a month at the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence, now known as Promise Place. If the Teagues prove they completed the requirements, the case would be dropped by prosecutors, according to court files. |
