Bad Links? | Union City Festival features fun and festivitiesEach year the city of Union City hosts a fall festival in early October. The purpose of the festival is to promote a sense of community throughout the residents and business people of South Fulton County. The theme of the festival is Celebrate Union City. The festival features two days of activities that include activities for all taste and age groups. This years festival is scheduled for October 8th and 9th. The festival activities will be held at Shannon Mall. Today beginning at 5:30 p.m., the festival presents Fiesta Friday, a street dance that features a Latin disc jockey, Latin-American food vendors and pinata bashes for the kids 12 and under. Tomorrow, the festival parade begin at 10 a.m. The parade begins at the corner of Dodson Dr. and Flat Shoals Rd. and will travel along Shannon Parkway ending up at Shannon Mall. The parade will feature the marching bands from Creekside and Banneker High Schools. There will be a Battle of the Bands exhibition following the parade. The Creekside High Cheerleaders will also put on an exhibition at Shannon Mall. The Grand Marshal for the parade is Fulton County Commission Chairman Karen Handel. Several South Fulton businesses and personalities will be on hand during the parade. A 3 on 3-basketball tournament (Hoop-Fest) will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Cash prizes, trophies and tee shirts will be awarded to the participants. A vendor area has been provided at Shannon Mall that includes local vendors with a variety of food, novelties and information. Throughout the afternoon local performers will be featured on the sound stage at Shannon Mall. These acts will include dancers, models, gospel, R&B, country and various other performers. On Saturday evening there will be a street dance and concert featuring the popular show band Music Music. The festival will conclude with a spectacular fireworks exhibition. |
