Bad Links? | Man pleads guilty to shoplifting, chase with policeA Fairburn man pled guilty Wednesday to stealing three The Lion King DVDs from a Fayetteville Walgreens and then leading police on a chase along Ga. Highway 85 north in December 2003. Donta Dewitt Harris, 35, of 3285 Bethsaida Rd. was sentenced to 10 years to serve in prison by Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards. The trial in his case had already begun when Harris decided to cop the plea instead of fact a jury. Harris pled guilty to felony charges of possession of cocaine and theft by shoplifting because it was his third offense. He also pled guilty to possession of marijuana (less than one ounce), fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and driving with a suspended license. Harris also addressed the court, saying he has been addicted to cocaine for a number of years. Harris asked Edwards to sentence drug sellers and distributors to the max when he gets the opportunity, according to courtroom observers. |
