Bad Links? | Planning Commission vacancy may be decided soonBy JOHN THOMPSON With more and more development headed their way, the Senoia City council is trying to make sure they have the best folks in place to deal with developers questions. During Monday nights City Council meeting, the issue of filling the vacancy on the Planning Commission was addressed. Chairman Pat Thompson resigned because of her busy work schedule, so the council was faced with finding a replacement. In the interim, alternate member Jack Merrick served at the Planning Commission meetings when needed. Mayor Bob Hannah asked the council if they wanted to appoint Merrick to a permanent slot and also added the city had received two applications from interested residents. Richard Ferry and Jim Garver both indicated a desire to serve the city, and Councilman Bill wood suggested the city table any decision until the council could meet with the two applicants. We certainly dont want to discourage folks from applying, Wood said. Wood also said that Merrick had served on the commission off and on for six years and that perhaps it was time to consider spreading the appointments around to different areas of the city. The council agreed with Wood, and decided to meet with each of the candidates before the Oct.18 meeting, when a final decision will be made. |
