Bad Links? | Kroger decision could be this monthBy JOHN THOMPSON Senoia shoppers could know by Nov. 1 if a Kroger is coming to town. City Clerk Debby Hogan said this week the vote on the proposed shopping center at the intersection of Ga. highways 85 and 16 could occur Oct. 18, but there are still several factors to consider. City planner Bill Johnston still has to give his recommendations on the proposal and the Planning Commission has to give their recommendations on it, she said. Late last month, the Planning Commission gave a conditional approval to a shopping center at the site, but did not address any of the variances that Trammell Crow was seeking to develop the site. Specifically, the developer wanted to lower some of the setback and buffering requirements because a portion of the property is contaminated due to leaking gas tanks on the site. Johnston told the Planning Commission last month that he had just received the new information and was not prepared to make a recommendation on any of the variances. The Planning Commission is set to meet Oct. 19 on the issue, but if Johnston and city engineer Bill Turnipseed can make their final recommendations soon, Mayor Hob Hannah said the Planning Commission could stage a special called meeting so the issue would be on the Oct. 18 agenda.
