Seay takes leadership role in Legislative Black CaucusState Sen. Valencia Seay, D-College Park, and other area residents will participate in the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Conference Thursday through Saturday in Atlanta. Seay, whose 34th District senate seat includes all of Fayetteville and much of northern Fayette County, is on the GLBC Board of Directors and helped organize the three-day meeting at the Hyatt Regency downtown. She will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the Chairman's Reception and Awards on Friday. "This is the 22nd year the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus has held its annual legislative and educational weekend," said Seay. "It has become as much a tradition among legislators as the famous Wild Hog Supper has right before the opening of the annual legislative session." Several of Seay's constituents will participate in the conference as well. Thomasina Church, a recent graduate of North Clayton High School, will receive the GLBC 2004 Young Scholars Award. Church currently is attending Bethune-Cookman College in Florida, and her mother, Felecia Church, will accept the award on her behalf. Also scheduled to get an award will be Wade Starr of Fayetteville, who will receive the Chairman's Community Activism award. The Devine Faith Ministries Ensemble in Jonesboro will perform at a Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning. Keynote speakers for the conference include Georgia Supreme Court Justice Leah Sears, and Judge Greg Mathis of the popular courtroom television show.
