Overgrown grass in city result of frequent stormsBy J. FRANK LYNCH
If it appears the grass along city rights-of-way and in the highway medians needs cutting in Peachtree City, thats because it does. Three hurricanes in a row have forced the citys Public Works department to abandon its regular maintenance schedule, Mayor Steve Brown said Wednesday. The record amounts of rain that have fallen on the area in recent weeks have made it near impossible to cut grass anyway, Brown said. But even on nice, sunny days city crews have been preoccupied with cutting up and removing fallen trees, dead limbs and other rubbish from the frequent storms. Brown said the city would return to cutting the grass as soon as it could. The workload for city crews has grown in recent years as the city has grown, Brown said, but no new landscape personnel have been added to the city budget, compounding the problem. The Department of Leisure Services has its own landscape crews to maintain the citys ballfields, he said.
