Residents to decide liquor questionBy JOHN THOMPSON
Senoia residents will head to the polls next month to decide if they want a cocktail with their meal. But an effort to vote on whether package stores should be allowed in the growing city appears to have been stalled. City Clerk Debbie Hogan confirmed this week that liquor by the drink will be on the Nov. 2 ballot, but said a petition drive to allow package stores in the city has failed. Municipal rules allow cities to place the liquor by the drink question on the ballot, but maintain a petition has to be submitted to allow the package store issue to be placed on the ballot. Senoia is joining a long list of local governments on the southside asking residents to decide the liquor by the drink issue. Most recently, residents in unincorporated Fayette County voted overwhelmingly voted to allow liquor to pour. Earlier this year, residents in unincorporated Coweta County also approved pouring liquor. The first license in the county is expected to be issued after January 1.
