OM expands Tyrone facilityOperation Mobilization, an international Christian mission agency, has more than doubled its U.S. office and ministry center located on Lynnwood Avenue in Tyrone. This ministry and building expansion was opened at a two-day celebration and dedication event last week. Over those days, OM welcomed more than 600 people for an Around the World prayer event and a dinner and program. The centers new addition includes an office wing joined to the original office building by a connector which houses a reception area, an auditorium which seats 250, a dining room which seats 200, and a book shop open to the public. The original wing and the addition now total approximately 40,000 square feet. The new facility also provides a setting for conferences and training programs, as well as events with the local Christian community such as prayer summits. OM USA has been located in Fayette County since 1987 and in Tyrone since 1990. This latest building project was begun in 2002 and committed not to borrow money but to proceed only as funds were available. The project was completed in just over two years time with money given specifically for the building. This prevented any impact on OMs work internationally as no funds were diverted. OM USA represents the 47-year-old interdenominational agency which has more than 3,700 workers in 100 countries and onboard two ocean-going mission ships. The international ministry includes evangelism, establishing new churches, distributing Christian literature, relief work, medical aid and community development. Most of this is done in partnership with local churches. In the United States, OM is focused on helping American Christians become more involved in mission work.
