Fayette County teams sweep Global Enterprise competitionPRISM (Product Resources International at Starrs Mill) and Fayette County Highs Tiger International team placed first and second, respectively, at the third Annual Global Enterprise Olympics held recently. The PRISM team received $750 and the FCHS team was awarded $250 for their placements. Sandy Creek High also participated in the competition with other high school teams from Georgia and Texas. PRISM will represent the United States in London on Nov. 17-18 at the International Enterprise Challenge, along with schools from 19 different countries across the globe. The Global Enterprise Olympics is a mini Enterprise Challenge in which the competing U.S. teams work within the same 4-hour time frame to solve a problem. The challenge was to conceptualize and design an innovative product or service that would remove permanently one of those little annoyances. The challenge included a complete mini- business plan and delivery of a two-minute presentation that showed how the team would take their idea to market. The judging panel was comprised of representatives of Careers Scotland and the Globalscot Community in the Houston area, who received the mini-business plans (up to two-pages in length) before the presentations began. The judges in a dedicated room within Space Center Houston then viewed each presentation and the winner was announced live via Web streaming at 5 p.m. Sept. 8. At the international competition, the participating teams will be issued a challenge (or business/community problem) to solve within a 24-hour period. During that time, the teams must design a solution to the problem, create a business plan to implement the solution, and make a 3-minute presentation. The business plan and the presentation will then be judged by an international panel of judges in London to determine the International Global Enterprise Challenge Champion. PRISM is part of the Global Achievers program in Georgia that matches Georgia schools with schools in other countries for a hands-on international business experience through communication, importing, exporting, and marketing of products with schools from other countries. PRISM has partners in several countries including their newest partner inEngland. The students would like to personally meet their new English partners to create a more personal experience, which will enhance their business dealings with that country during this school year. Theyd also like to represent the U.S. in person at the November competition in London and are asking the community for help in raising funds for the trip. Sponsorships are needed to pay for airfare, hotel and transportation for the eight students and their teacher. Any support, donations, sponsorships, or contributions should be sent to PRISM c/o Starrs Mill High School, 193 Panther Path, Fayetteville, 30215.
