A new location for one of Fayettes oldest businessesFarming may not be the worlds oldest profession, but certainly it was one of the first in Fayette County. Starting in 1946, Georgia Farm and Ranch was in business under one name or another, first as a seed store. At the former location next to Speedi-Pig Barbeque, the barnlike structure was drafty and cold in winter, hot and pungent in summer, with bags of horse feed, fertilizer in big pallet stacks. Then and now many pallets of feed wound up on South Fayette and Coweta Counties farms. But today when you walk into Georgia Farm and Ranch, the large air-conditioned showroom, expansive selection of power equipment, pet supplies and even gifts is, as Manager Terry Pulliam describes, a shoppers delight. Purina Mills pet food and horse feed, a broad variety of pet care supplies, including vaccinations, shampoos, cages, leashes, chew toys and rawhides stock shelf after shelf of easily perused items. The new location, in Fayetteville on Ga. Highway 85, just south of the split with 92, is easy to get in and out of. Weve gone from 200 different items to over 3,000, says Pulliam. With the selection we have theres no reason why at least 10% of Fayette County shouldnt be in here every month. Pulliam cites great quality pet foods at exceptional value as a prime draw for local residents. We are convenient to Peachtree City and all of Fayetteville. Why wouldnt you want to be able to pull in and stop right at our front door? The expanded showroom houses the areas biggest selection of equestrian supplies. Weve got a computer program that will tell people what to feed their horses based on size and age, says Pulliam. He continues, My wife shows horses. She used to drive to Senoia to get supplies and equipment. She approves of what we have, so I know its good. Owner Fred Green knows that he is one-stop shopping for anyone with animals and/or land to take care of. Often it is our customers who buy our supplies that buy our equipment, says Green. Georgia Farm and Ranch carries the full line of Husqvarna lawn equipment, including professional grade zero turn mowers. They carry White Outdoor and Cub Cadet, sister brands that are considered Best Buys in some categories. One customer, Philip Stusak of Fayetteville owns The Cutting Edge, a professional property maintenance company. He bought his Cub Cadet Tank, a lawnmower with a 60 inch cutting swath from Georgia Farm and Ranch. Stusak says, They were extremely helpful and accomodating to my business. The experience with them has been great. Its one of the better mowers Ive ever had, and Ive had six. Stusak also referred to positive experiences with the Georgia Farm and Ranch lawnmower service department. Pulliam points out the added options for homeowners. We do pick-up and delivery on mowers needing service, he says. Georgia Farm and Ranch also carries the Hustler Turf Equipment line of both professional and home owner mowers. In addition to lawnmowers, Georgia Farm and Ranch carries Agco tractors and Arctic Cat ATVs. We are the only place you can get them, and get them serviced, said Pulliam of the Arctic Cats. They are the best transporation for anyone who loves the outdoors, especially hunters. Also in stock this season for hunters are outdoor dutch ovens, perfect for cooking at the campsite. Georgia Farm and Ranchs selection of food plot seed is expansive, including the critically acclaimed Godfreys brand. Owner Fred Green also is happy about the selection of gift items available in time for Christmas, including miniature windmills and Vermont weather sticks. Hes had one on his farm for 10 years. It still works, says Green. He explains, Normally it points up. But if its going to rain it points down or remains level with the ground. Its a good and useful conversation piece. With the old country look of the new Georgia Farm and Ranch some things havent changed. Manager Terry Pulliam still puts the service and friendly atmosphere first on his list of reasons to visit. The new Georgia Farm and Ranch is on Highway 85 South in Fayetteville. For more information call 770-460-0794.
