Students raising money for abused, neglected kidsFunds will help Fayette Youth Protection Homes Children in Fayette County public elementary schools are seeking donations for the 14th annual fund-raiser for the Fayette Youth Protection Homes. The Power Parade campaign, which began Friday, helps fund FYPH, which runs two residential group homes in Fayette County that shelter children who have been abused or neglected. The theme for this years Power Parade is Kids Helping Kids. The Fayette Youth Power Parade is a powerful opportunity for our children to help other children who might be even their own classmates, said Dr. John DeCotis, Superintendent of the Fayette County School System. It is an opportunity for us, as a community of caring individuals, to work together to address a need that is a reality in our own back yard. The actual Power Parade will take place during the week of Oct. 4-8 when students walk during the school day, usually during physical education class. The Power Parade not only raises money for the Fayette Youth Protection Homes, but also gives children the opportunity to make a positive difference in their community, said Becky Davenport, executive director of Fayette Youth Protection Homes, Inc. The student who brings in the most pledge dollars will win a trip for four to Disney World. First runner-up will win an electric scooter and the class in each school with the most participation will receive a pizza or ice cream party. The Fayette County PE teachers whose school has the highest percentage participation will win a weekend cruise for two to the Bahamas. Fayette Youth Protection Homes Inc. is comprised of the Friday and Johnson Homes, which were established in 1986 to provide a loving home environment for children who are victims of abuse or neglect.
