Storms hurt blood donations to Red CrossDrive set for Fville church Oct. 3 The recent spate of hurricanes has affected blood donations to the American Red Cross, which is currently down to just one and a half days supply of blood. With blood drives cancelled due to power outages and other storm-related difficulties, the Red Cross is short about 1,000 pints of blood for the month so far, said spokesperson Cammie Barnes. It affects us in ways I dont think people would think about, Barnes said of the storms. Local residents will have another chance to help out Sunday, Oct. 3 at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. during a local blood drive. The Red Cross South Metro Donor Center, in Stockbridge, takes donations from 1-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Appointments for the local drive or the donor center can be made by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE. Walk-ins will also be accepted. Both O negative and O positive are especially needed as always, Barnes said. O negative is the universal blood type and O positive is the most common blood type, accounting for 38 percent of the population, Barnes noted.
