Bad Links? | Community meeting on criminal justice system set for OctoberCitizens will get an opportunity to speak out on the operations and fiscal concerns related to the Countys criminal justice system at a special community meeting October 3,Ê at the Harriett G. Darnell Senior Multipurpose Facility, 677 Fairburn Road, N.W., Atlanta from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Called Who Pays? Who Benefits?, the public hearing will bring together high-ranking representatives of the Office of the Interim Sheriff, Superior Court, State Court, the Office of the District Attorney, the Clerk of the Superior Court and the Office of the Public Defender. 40 percent of Fulton Countys tax dollars are allocated to the criminal justice system, District 5 Commissioner Emma I. Darnell stated. Citizens want to know more about how tax dollars are spent in this area. The commissioner also plans to hear testimony on issues including transportation, taxes and the environment. Her district has the largest percentage of environmental stressors of any area in the county. Participating Civic and community groups include the STRATEGIES for a Healthier Community Task Force, Office of Aging; the Utoy-Clayton Community Task Force on the Environment; and the Fulton County Airport (Brown Field) Neighborhood Task Force.
