Bad Links? | Second times a charm for AveryThe vacancy on Fairburns City Council has been filled. Mario Avery, who ran for the position during the citys last regular election and lost, has come out the winner this time. Its a great honor. We ran a very professional and accurate campaign and we did a lot of planning. Avery said in regard to his victory. The special election held September 21 gave the people of Fairburn five prospective candidates to choose from. With 264 vote, Avery took a giant lead over his closest opponent, Scott Vaughn. Vaughn came in second with 135 votes followed closely by ex-police chief Charlie Nave with 102 votes. James Golden received 70 votes with Christian Wright earning 13 votes for his efforts. City Clerk Nancy Faulkner reported that there was a single write-in vote for Joe Lee, an announcement that brought a chuckle from the polling place. Accountability and accessibility, were the two watchwords given by Avery as his focus for Fairburn. My perspective is that we believe in prior planning to prevent poor performance. He added, crediting his Veteran status and Gulf War experience for his emphasis on preparedness. Avery currently works as a compliance officer for the Fulton County government. He would also like to see better education policies and attention to environmental concerns become priorities for Fairburn. I want everyone in the community to be considered when making decisions. He said. |
