Bad Links? | Lyons to lead revival services at Outreach InternationalThe pastor of a Louisville, Ky., church that has placed itself as a reconciling force between the citys police and the citys predominately black inner core will lead revival services at Outreach International Center, 1091 S. Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville, Sunday, Sept. 26, through Tuesday, Sept. 28. Although Bishop Dennis Lyons and his church, Full Gospel Missionary Church, have been successful in cleaning several city blocks known for violence and drug dealing, he and the church have drawn criticism from other African-American congregations for their support of the Louisville Police Department. We can be a resource to our people when they are confronted by the police, and we can be a resource for the police when they are confronting our people, the Bishop said, noting that his congregation will be the host this year for training sessions for a citizens police academy. He proudly declared that his church welcomes gang members, hustlers, pimps and prostitutes. I dont mind the church being known as a church full of crooks, because the crooks need faith to get them to where they can get to Christ, Lyons said. Theyve got to have faith, and somebodys got to deal with them when they dont have faith to give them faith. We embrace the people of the street. Dr. John Hatcher, pastor of Outreach International Center, said I hope and pray that our church can see a vision of reaching people who dont look like us and whose needs are probably much more basic than our own. The Louisville pastor will preach at Outreach International Center Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., and both Monday and Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. All four services will include praise and worship led by Minister Garland Cobb and instrumentalist Fenette Beresford.
