Bad Links? | River cleanup to take place SaturdayGeorgia Power employees, Arnco-Sargent and Whitesburg Elementary Schools, Boy Scouts and other local volunteers will clean and beautify the Whitesburg boat ramp along the Chattahoochee River. Community members are invited to participate. The clean-up will take place Saturday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m.-noon. Plant Yates employees and their families, in partnership with students and faculty from Arnco-Sargent and Whitesburg Elementary Schools and other community members, will join together this Saturday to clean the Whitesburg boat ramp along the banks of the Chattahoochee River. In addition, a Newnan Boy Scout troop will assemble benches for use along the area and plant employees will do landscape work to beautify the site. The event is part of the Rivers Alive waterway clean up program sponsored annually by Georgias Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division and Keep Georgia Beautiful. Last year more than 100 volunteers pulled over 10,500 pounds of debris from the river and surrounding areas, including old tires, huge logs and pieces of metal.
