Bad Links? | City slaps 90-day moratorium on developmentBy JOHN THOMPSON Senoias increase in development is causing the citys leaders to take a breath. By unanimous consent, the City Council voted Monday night to issue a 90-day moratorium on any new annexations and rezoning in the city. We need to get answers back on the capacity of our sewerage and water systems, said Mayor Bob Hannah. During a recent work session, the council learned that the number of new developments in the city could possibly leave the citys new sewer system at capacity. The Mayor instructed the citys staff to determine how much of the citys sewer system would be left for future development and how the citys water system would be affected by the new subdivisions. During Mondays meeting, city attorney Drew Whalen suggested the city extend the moratorium until the end of December, so it wouldnt expire during the middle of a month. The council agreed, and the moratorium will now expire at midnight Dec. 31. |
